ABOUT
Hi everybody,
I’m Derrick! Some people call me by different names, nicknames and middle names and all, but all you need to know that if you see me in the vicinity and scream “DERRRRRICKKKK!!!“, I’ll definitely respond. And if you email me at blog@derrickwrites.com, I’ll certainly reply to you.

I generally like to write about things that happen to me, or around me – simply because I believe we have something to learn and also these are things that make up life for some of us – though I border on bitching on my blog, I admit. Why not anyway? It’s how I rationalise things and it’s not that I don’t make any sense.
Considering that I come from the wonderful country of Singapore, these ideas are somewhat inclined towards the Singaporean context, but of course, I hope to further improve my objective-writing as well as writing to appeal to an international readership. (I don’t know why, but the sound of that sounds intimidating suddenly.)
I love to sing and I’m glad I do so, because it brings out a lot of energy, plus it makes people happy at times.I sing with local a cappella group Acappuccino, which I founded with a few friends.
My vocal fach is that of a lyrical Baritone. but I often sing Tenor and the occasional Alto and Bass. In my history, I was presented as a member of a few a cappella groups, namely the Urban Harmony Singers, THE DOTZ, and AMEN.
I personally look forward to spreading my love for a cappella music and continue singing and performing with a variety of people.

There is something about travelling that I enjoy a lot – the sights and sounds that one can get surrounded by, no corrections, everything in a foreign country that one can drown in is very intriguing to me.
Especially since I got the Powershot G12 (my first semi-pro camera), I often bring it out when I go out with my friends and of course when I’m overseas. I might not know how to capture pictures with the manual settings very well and all, but I know that moments can’t capture themselves.
I admit also, I’ve been bitten by the wanderlust bug and I plan to travel at least once a year, especially since I’m still young (I turn 27 in 2012!!). Being somewhere foreign enhances my senses, I smell better and am more alert (apparently I look better somewhat. HAHAHA!); and I feel healthier and more motivated. I spend a bit of time to reflect and think about certain things around me when I’m overseas.

So what’s around the corner, I do not know. But I will not stop writing and pouring my heart and soul out to share my life with you readers. I’ve been blogging on many platforms since I started in 2000 and I’m happy that I’m not super popular nor am I that obscure (considering that 300-400 visits a month).
So readers, let’s take 2012 by the balls and move it along together.
Yours,
Derrick
