Back from Australia
And flying off to Taipei next – for the real holiday!
FIRSTLY:
HAPPY NEW YEAR AND 2011 TO ALL!!
Will not talk about what happened in Australia, except that I was at Gold Coast, Brisbane and was in Tweed Head for awhile.
My heart goes out to the Queenslanders affected by the flood, and I thank God I’m back and safe – now rushing through all the work that I wasn’t able to do because Optus refuse to left me tether the net after one night.
All in all, I love Australia, and will do a revisit sometime. Hopefully with better company.
I was thinking a lot while away and I hope that while I am spending time in Taipei, I’d feel even better when I return.
The mandatory Australian tourist-y picture!

I know, I know. I put on weight, yeah, and you will die one day – what’s the surprise?
Yes!
I am starting to expand my portfolio in music-making even more, and will be updating this space instead of working from another blog channel. It’s tiring and so not fulfilling.
What else am I doing besides administrative work with The A Cappella Society? Quite a bit, I’m still singing with 2 different groups (Acappuccino, and Dotz); working on acoustic covers which I will be uploading in the time to come; and with some old friends, we’re setting up a Christian music ministry to work on some stuff together with a few other places and people.
Praise God, first of all, for the energy and renewal day after day.
I’m also hoping to return to studying, still deciding which majors and all. Sucks to be me at times, but I’m positive it’ll be a great time ahead.
I’m on Twitter, go ahead and follow me @derrickwrites, and I’m on Facebook also. I’m no longer on MySpace, because I’m rather lazy to post anything there already. Please feel free also to email me at derrick@derrickwrites.co.cc, and I will try to get back to you – hoping which your mail doesn’t land in Junk or Spam.
It’s been a great 11 years with the 500-odd readers that drop on by and let’s check out another year together.
Here always writing,
Derrick
It hit me.
I always watch this part and think deeply. Often, I found myself rewatching THIS conversation.
Ted Mosby and Robin Sherbatsky was sitting on the couch, lamenting about the changes that have occured over the last 5 years.
Robin just broke up with Don. She actually decided to not take up the Chicago job offer to be with Don; but when approached, he didn’t even bat an eyelid and took up the offer.
Ted:
“… and you, five years ago, you never would have chosen love over your career. But today, you did.”
Robin:
“Looks like I’m getting dumber.”

.
(I swore, I almost cried hearing/watching his response.)

Ted:
“No. Just more courageous…“
My (Highly Murderous) Birthday Wishlist Part 2
For your information, I’ve shifted email addresses, until further notices, please email me at
derrick@derrickwrites.co.cc!
Thank you!!
Or rather this is just an update.
Because I’ve decided to focus on other things which are hard for me to get.
So take this as part 2. Hahaha…
1. DSLR Camera
Yes! I know it’s crazy! But it’s a great gift, especially coming from a lot of people. Close friends, you guys have each other’s contact details or my email address and ability to contact me directly to either pass me cash or really get it for me.
I’ve found good conditioned (hopefully they’re honest) DSLRs. The best would be this new, entry level model (here).
14MPX. Oh, baby come to me!
2. A P&S Camera
Yes! I know! I know! A DSLR already and then a Point-and-Shoot?!
I know… I want either-and-or. Hahaha… It is really difficult to choose, because there are so many of them!
So possible suggestion is one that is good enough to take HD videos with, and I can definitely be able to do a lot besides phototaking. Hahaha…
Thanks in advance.
3. Adidas Duffle Bag.
Yeah, something similar to the one I posted before. Please bring me to the Adidas shop and check it out before purchasing it? =S
4. Shoes.
Okay. This is very stupid. but I admit bags and shoes are also a guy’s best friend, besides gadgets. I found this again, updated. Can’t find any blue or red one that I really like on EBay, but of course, a tour around shoe shops is fun too!
BTW, the shoe in the picture doesn’t appeal to me anymore. It’s ugly.
5. Apparels?
In case you’re a creepy stalker who lives under the bridge near my house and would love to buy me a gift, or a single friend who doesn’t wish to share a gift, or…
You’re like some irresponsible, self-righteous, fat, going-to-be-wedded woman (can’t say whore, cos I wrote “going-to-be-wedded”, which isn’t a whore and I’m not thinking any worst, and oh my sky, it is still being published! But I still think that person is a whore by the way she acts around certain people – these poor untalented people. And you may call me a wonderfully-happy grudge-bearer.) with bad taste in fashion and mannerisms, who – being oh-so-wonderfully-self-righteous- thinks I’m undeserving of such expensive gifts, which to a certain extent I feel is true, because I don’t deserve some of your gifts (e.g. CMH because you pissed off my mum and I do not wish to see your family cos your father called my mother a bitch)…
you’re not that wealthy, so you might want to consider other gift ideas from my previous list. Hahaha…
Yeah, I can be cheap like some harlequin who can’t job-hop because it is growing too old, and yet still think its a little kid who can push its weight around. *Woof* Yay!!!
So from a long list that was populated by Adidas, I’ve shrunk it into something more gift-worthy.
Go ahead, make me so happy that I’ll cry.
Yours,
Derrick
Yes, I will TRY not to be pretentious.
Life goes on after the A Cappella Championships, and this has indeed been a TREMEDOUS year for me.
I’m sorry for the lack of photos, so I’ll just post pictures which I’ve sourced out from many other places.
The Acachamps this year has a raised in its grading system, but a lot of groups either maintained their standards, or improved.
Acappuccino got Bronzes at the Pop Choir category (with the big shots, the Singapore Men’s Chorus and the Filippino Voice Symphony) and the Open category. We technically scored higher than last year, but with the grading’s modulated from last year, we couldn’t achieve a Silver this year, but it doesn’t matter to us – we had fun and that was most important.
I know it sounds like Glee, but think about it. IT IS TRUE! We will not give up to up our performance, but we’ll definitely present a great show for Christmas and at our concert next year!
Dotz did quite well, and got a Silver! Considering we’ve came together for less than 2 months, we’ve worked very hard to make this work out for everybody.
I was busy this whole weekend, that I couldn’t be on the phone! Thank you people who’ve emailed me, called me or texted me and I only got back to you now.
You might ask why was I so held back, don’t Acap just end the day and go off? Well, I was helping out at the Championships this year and boy I was glad I did!
You guys remember the article which I was planning to write on the A Cappella scene here in Singapore – it’ll definitely go through a lot of refining after watching some of the groups perform and interacted with them, Yes, I definitely had fun.
I know some of you who did attend the International Category was surprised (and shocked) to have seen me perform hosting duties. I admit I’m a bad speaker before a real crowd; but I believe I’ve done a decent job of running the show forward and to introduce the groups.
I had fun asking each groups about little nuggets of themselves so as to make my scripting easier, I got to know Mosaic better at the Post-Champs celebration also; and really enjoyed time with them.
We all learn from mistakes, I for one learnt little tricks to not be so nervous and start slurring and rattling off. And yeah, I’ve got Rachel – my stage manager – to thank while I was panicking backstage and things were not going as well as we would have thought.
But anyway, it was indeed a busy week ahead, especially as I was still doing material sourcing for Acappuccino’s big project – our concert, which reared its head in the flyer of the A Cappella Championships’ Brouchure. be sure to support us next year!
And someone told me while on the way home that I should tone down on my “dramaticism” because it makes me seem like a pretentious person.
Alright, if you say so. =)
P.S. I’m tired now, so thus I end this entry quite abruptly. I need my rest!!!!!!
